Bancroft is currently seeking a Full Time Career Development Specialist to join our NeuroRehab services located in My Laurel, NJ.  

 

Responsibilities

Position Summary:      

Provides ongoing career assessment and development based on diagnostic evaluations, to persons served within the Bancroft organization to identify, maintain, and enhance community-based employment.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Performs comprehensive vocational evaluations and treatment recommendations using testing materials related to academic achievement, cognitive functioning and work samples associated with the ongoing job development of assigned persons served to best match the job preferences and needs of the individual and prospective employer:
  • Conducts job assessments on an ongoing basis with assigned persons served to identify individual job preferences, interests, abilities, and satisfaction for subsequent group work assignments;
  • Identifies and proactively approaches prospective employer organizations to encourage the employment of persons served within their organizations; e.g., serves on business advisory committees, accesses existing employer database/network, attends job fairs, etc.;
  • In consort with prospective employers, surveys, develops, and documents job openings for matching to persons served; conducts/coordinates and evaluates on-site tours of employer job site to determine job suitability;
  • Works one-on-one with persons served to identify individual career goals, document career development plan, encourage progressive career growth, develop a resume, accompany persons served to job interviews, provide support in completing job applications, etc.  Supports and provides information to persons served regarding Social Security benefits, Unemployment benefits, etc., and refers individual to appropriate agency/issue specialist, as needed.
  • Makes treatment recommendations and career directions based on evaluations. 
  • Develops and coordinates rehabilitation plans with a focus on vocational planning. 
  1. Provides individual job coaching and mentoring to assigned persons served to encourage and support social integration and the development of natural supports at employer job sites:
  • Provides support to persons served at employer job site with job training needs; e.g., explaining employer organization’s policies and procedures, providing orientation regarding job structure and management’s performance expectations, reorienting persons served to job and management changes, providing instruction regarding proper utilization of equipment, explaining appropriate personal appearance and attire at job site, etc.;
  • Facilitates the social integration of persons served into the existing employer job site; strives to build and maintain effective on-the-job work relationships to encourage the development of natural supports for persons served and coworkers and promote a level of acceptance in the workplace;
  • Provides sensitivity training and support to employers and coworkers when the need is identified or when specifically requested by employer;
  • Provides safety instruction to persons served in the workplace and within the community to ensure a safe and secure work environment;
  • Provides ongoing follow-along supports to persons served, employer, and coworkers. 
  1. Provides supervision for persons served at work site and in the community. Follows established Bancroft policies and procedures and maintains compliance with Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) Supported Employment/Day Program (SE/DP) Manual standards, applicable state/local/federal regulations, Department of Labor (DOL) regulations, and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) standards at all times. 
  1. Complies with the IPP as detailed for assigned persons served and supports the development of goals as determined by employer. Provides goal training and instruction, and assists each person in the achievement of goals while actively encouraging individual independence within ability limits while following standard interaction protocol or individual behavior plan.  Attends employers’ annual performance review meeting for the person served to ensure the mutual attainment of job expectations and to discuss performance issues, training needs, job site concerns, etc. 
  1. Maintains an overall awareness of current and changing rules and regulations regarding employment issues; e.g., Department of Labor (DOL), Social Security, ADA, etc., as they impact the employment of persons served at prospective and current employer organizations. 
  1. Aids in the resolution of problematic situations that may occur for persons served within a specific Program or job site. Exercises appropriate judgment in addressing specific situations. 
  1. Assists with identifying transportation options to and from work site.  Safely transports and accompanies persons served to work trials during the evaluation phase 
  1. Completes paperwork in a professional manner and maintains all documentation as required by the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), and/or BI, Department of Labor (DOL), Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), established Bancroft policies and procedures, and as determined by Program Manager for the Program site; e.g., case management logs, monthly progress reports, assessments, behavioral data sheets, Incident Reports, Parent/Guardian/Other contact form, etc. 
  1. Maintains effective and regular communication with prospective employers regarding goals of individual person served, applicable tax credit benefits, DOL regulations, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations, ADA accommodations, job training provisions, etc. Makes referrals to appropriate agencies and issue specialists as necessary to encourage job placement of persons served and a quick resolution of issues and concerns. 
  1. Maintains effective communications with assigned persons served, parents, guardians and other family members, healthcare personnel, own manager and coworkers across Programs and functions, neighbors, surrounding communities, etc. Operates in accordance with the Confirmation of Understanding or Plan of Care for assigned persons served regarding Programs and treatment, healthcare, sexual preferences, ethnic and cultural support, recreational/socialization/vocational activities, physical fitness and healthy living, family involvement, and disagreements and grievances. 
  1. Serves as an advocate on behalf of assigned persons served in a variety of situations. 
  1. Actively participates in the DVR Meetings and Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) process in conjunction with the IPP, if applicable. 
  1. Obtains employer feedback and follows up and takes necessary action and shares information with DVR referral source, reports issues in the event plan is problematic, updates records, etc. 
  1. Follows state-approved emergency procedures and Bancroft-approved crisis intervention techniques at all times. 
  1. Prepares for, and promptly responds to, emergency situations to ensure the safety and security of the employer’s job site and persons served at all times. Notifies proper authority in the event of a valid emergency. 
  1. Serves as a role model to persons served by projecting a positive self-image of professionalism, appearance, confidentiality, courtesy, conduct, honesty, fairness, personal integrity, and a respect for the fundamental rights, dignity, and privacy of others. 
  1. Ensures the smooth transition of persons served across Programs and effectively communicates with the staff members of those Programs; e.g., transition from Residential to Vocational, etc.
  2. Participates on job development committees to increase visibility of program and raise awareness. 
  1. Performs other related duties as assigned or as necessary. Remains flexible and adaptable in work schedules and work assignments as defined by program needs. 
  1. Abides by the Bancroft Code of Ethics, Mission Statement, and Vision Statement in promoting ethical behavior, establishing relationships and providing guidance in decision-making situations. 
  1. Remains current with required training certifications, meets state-regulated licensing and regulatory accreditations, and adheres to mandatory requirements. 
  1. Maintains effective verbal and written communications with Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), colleagues, those served, and their family members and/or guardians when applicable. 
  1. Willingly and effectively cooperates with Bancroft NeuroHealth, The Department of Human Services, The Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), and other licensing or state agency or local municipalities in any inspections and investigations, upon request. 
  1. Maintains a safe and respectful environment, free of abuse, neglect, or exploitation; does not allow weapons, threats, bullying or intimidation. 
  1. Reports any violations to the appropriate individual as soon as incident occurs. 
  1. Maintains levels of supervision as defined in behavior plans; e.g., Individual Program Plan (IPP), Individual Rehabilitation Plan (IRP), Individual Education Plan (IEP), Individual Service Plan (ISP), etc., when applicable.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree Required - Social Work, Psychology, or a related field preferred.  Related work experience in employment services preferred. Minimum of two years of experience working directly with neurologically-challenged individuals required.
