The Corporate Controller, a member of Bancroft’s Executive Staff, will report to the organization’s Chief Financial Officer and will be responsible for maintaining the overall integrity of the organization’s financial accounting practices and financial reporting structure.  The Corporate Controller position is a hands-on role, responsible for accounting operations, including maintenance of the accounting systems and closing the books, and distribution of financial reporting.  The Corporate Controller’s primary responsibility is to safeguard the assets of the organization, and  will be tasked with reviewing, improving and implementing accounting policies, procedures and internal controls.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage the organization’s daily accounting operations, with direct oversight including general accounting, payroll and accounts payable.  Ensure compliance with internal controls, management of internal and external auditing processes, and the distribution of financial statements and reports, both internal and external.
  • Maintain and continuously seek to improve a strong internal control environment governing the financial reporting process, consistent with the organization’s policies and standards.  Research, analyze and implement changes based on accounting matters to stay current with GAAP and GAAP-related proposals.
  • Manage month-end and year-end closing processes.  Ensure that all general ledger balance sheet accounts and related income statement accounts, as appropriate,  are reconciled and analyzed on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting, including management and board reporting packages in compliance with GAAP.  Prepare and present monthly analysis of financial results to executive team.
  • Manage budget tracking reports.  Review actuals with management and provide an analysis of variances.
  • Oversee the organization’s cash management and ensure day-to-day liquidity needs are met.  Assist the CFO in managing all banking and credit relationships and coordinate communications and reporting with creditors regarding compliance with financial covenants.
  • Supervise accounts payable and payroll functions.  Develop and implement appropriate processes to ensure timely and accurate processing of all payment and invoice transactions.
  • Coordinate all annual audits with the organization’s independent auditors and serve as the lead liaison with the audit teams.  Ensure accurate and timely statutory filings and external audits and other regulated mandates.
  • Work with Business Transformation Services to maintain current accounting systems and software and implement new technology as needed.  Evaluate and enhance appropriate systems as required.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with the executive team and program directors.
  • Manage direct reports and grow accounting and finance team as warranted.  Motivate and reinforce teamwork.  Attract, develop and retain competent and committed staff.
  • Perform special projects as required.  Prepare special analyses and evaluations in support of business decisions.

Qualifications

In addition to the necessary skills and experience to perform the responsibilities outlined above, there are a number of traits that a successful candidate will possess.

Technical:

  • BS in accounting, finance or related field
  • 12-15 years’ relevant experience, including a minimum of 5 years’ supervisory/management experience required
  • Leadership experience as a Corporate Controller or similar accounting executive role required
  • A background in public accounting and a CPA are strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, internal control systems, and financial reporting and analysis
  • Ability to function as a member of the Executive Staff, and to add value to the organization beyond the financial arena
  • Strong computer skills, including familiarity with accounting software systems and the MS Office Suite.  Excellent Excel skills and the ability to build complex financial models.  Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP is preferred.

Salary range:  $185,640- $206,635
