Bancroft is currently seeking a Safe and Positive Approaches (S&PA) Training Specialist. Bancroft is a leading service-provider for children and adults with autism, other intellectual or developmental disabilities, and those in need of neurological rehabilitation. Responsibilities

The Safe and Positive Approaches (S&PA) Training Specialist is responsible for delivering high-quality training and skill development to employees across Bancroft, with a focus on the education network, to promote safe, respectful, and effective strategies for preventing, de-escalating and responding to escalated situations. The  trainer ensures all instruction is aligned with state regulations, organizational policies, and industry best practices, with a strong emphasis on dignity, safety, and positive outcomes for the  individuals served at Bancroft.  This role ensures learning experiences meet regulatory accreditation and organizational needs using a variety of instructional methods and learning technologies.

 

  • Deliver initial and refresher S&PA training for new and existing employees across Bancroft, with a focus on the education network sites.  Support planning, development, delivery and facilitation of new hire orientation and annual recertification compliance training in line with state, federal and accrediting body requirements (e.g DOE, DDD, HIPAA, ARC, CARF, JCAHO, OSHA, etc.
  • Deliver other training (e.g. Blocking/PPE, CPR & First Aid, etc.) as needed across various formats (in person or virtual or blended) using engaging instructional strategies such as simulations, role-playing, group discussions, multimedia, interactive lectures, and scenarios that are learner-centered and evidence-based.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Safe & Positive Approaches, offering consultation as needed and provide follow-up coaching and skill reinforcement in classrooms and other program settings, while identifying issues and implementing solutions.
  • Continuously partner with program leadership, behavior specialists, and other trainers to address site-specific or individual-specific  needs, using independent discretion to adjust trainings to support business needs.
  • Teach and model proactive de-escalation strategies, respectful physical intervention methods, and prevention strategies in accordance with the outlines and guidelines set forth by S&PA training as per Bancroft’s External Trainer Agreement with Devereux, maintaining the integrity of the S&PA training curriculum at all times
  • Gathers and analyzes learner feedback to continuously improve training offerings, communicate findings to relevant stakeholders and support recalibration or development of relevant changes
  • Actively participates in the development and implementation of process improvement systems specifically related to the training/education function, as well as to Human Resources in general, to contribute to the quick resolution of problems, enhancement of existing systems and procedures, etc. 
  • Test and upload learning results to support the administration of learning modules and blended courses by also tracking and reporting on training effectiveness, participation, and compliance metrics through the LMS 
  • Maintain and create training records and attendance data using the LMS and HRIS systems to both track activities and generate reports for reviews to identify training and recertification needs of the organization as well as support rescheduling and follow-ups
  • Provide feedback to managers on employee attendance, engagement, interest, and competency during training sessions; flags no-shows to support timely rescheduling and maintain compliance with training and recertification regulations
  • Participate in post-incident reviews to identify training needs and recommended targeted interventions.  Gather and analyze learner feedback to continuously improve training offerings, communicate findings to relevant stakeholders and support recalibration or development of relevant changes.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, special education, behavioral science, psychology, or related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience considered. 

 

Experience: Minimum 2 years working in a special education, behavioral support, or therapeutic setting. A minimum of one year of experience in Human Services or a direct care program as mandated by N.J. State training/education standards required.  Must obtain American Red Cross instructor training and S&PA Train-the-Trainer certification within 90 days of hire.  Experience with LMS, HRIS platforms, training facilitation, adult learning theory,  or instructional design preferred.
